Oysters aren’t new and many people have associated them with a lot of things. Personally, I knew them as an aphrodisiac. Believe it or not, it has been discovered that they can also help in the treatment of depression and anxiety.
Dr. Drew Ramsey – who works at the Columbia University as an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry- has revealed that he usually prescribes oysters to help patients suffering from the above conditions feel better.
One of the reasons as to why oysters help in anxiety and depression treatment is because they are rich in vitamin B12. This type of vitamin helps prevents the brain from shrinking. They are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Research has revealed that those with omega 3s deficiency are likely to suffer the risk of depression and even commit suicide. Since they also contain zinc, it aid in normalizing the various brain functions. They are rich in zinc, which helps in improving the brain’s dopamine levels. Low levels of dopamine can increases people’s stress and depression.
So the next time you are down with anxiety, it is time to try a few oysters. It is important to note that it will not fully cure your condition but it will help in speeding up the healing process for those trying suffering for anxiety and depression.
