The 39-year-old father thought he would never walk again after a spinal injury crippled him again from the waist down in 2013. But the self-proclaimed Elvis Presley fan was determined to follow his dreams as a singer and to learn to walk again.
Darcy previously worked as an Elvis tribute. So it’s no surprise that he chose to sing Elvis’ song “The Wonder of You” when he entered the reality TV singing competition.
The guy couldn’t help but be emotional as he took the stage and told the audience that he thought he would never sing or walk again. He said he chose the Elvis song because he wanted to fulfill the commitment his wife and two sons had made to help him achieve his dreams while resisting after being paralyzed.
Darcy sang with all her heart, showing how supportive her family was on her journey to recovery. He had the audience and the judges on their toes with his moving rendition of this classic song.
Judge Lewis Walsh was particularly impressed and had no hesitation in awarding Darcy the golden buzzer, sending him to the next round of competition. Barry’s family rushed to greet their hero.
Unfortunately, Darcy was eliminated in the third round of the semi-finals, although the singer continued his music career on YouTube.
