Following an unexpected health concern involving a “abdominal issue,” 48-year-old worldwide music icon Shakira was forced to postpone her highly anticipated performance in Lima, Peru.

On Sunday, February 16, Shakira sent an emotional message on her X account to let fans know what was going on. She apologized for the unanticipated change in her health situation.

“I regret to notify everyone that I had to visit the emergency room last night due to an abdominal problem, and I am currently in the hospital,” she said. The doctors’ recommendation was reiterated in the statement, which insisted she wasn’t yet well enough to perform that night. Shakira went on to express her wish for a speedy recovery, which would enable her to leave the hospital and resume her performance schedule shortly.

To make sure that fans won’t miss the chance to see her live, the organization behind her tour is working hard to reschedule the Lima performance. She thanked all of her fans for their support and understanding during this trying time as her message came to a close.

The event, which was originally planned for February 16 at Lima’s Estadio Nacional, is currently on hold with the intention of a quick reschedule. In order to continue her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour around South America, Shakira has another event scheduled for February 17 at the same location.

She will also play in her native Colombia before traveling to North America later in the year. Two weeks prior, Shakira won the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album with “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” This health event follows closely on the heels of her significant Grammy victory.

Shakira resumed her whirlwind tour, bringing her captivating performances to many South American countries, following her amazing night at the 2025 Grammys. In the upcoming months of May and June, she hopes to take this trip to the United States.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on February 2, 1977. This marks the beginning of her remarkable adventure. Her fortunes drastically altered with the release of “Pies Descalzos” in 1995 and “Dónde Están los Ladrones?” in 1998, despite her first modest album releases. This helped her establish herself as a major Latin music phenomenon.

She became a global celebrity with her deft entry into the English music market with her album “Laundry Service” (2001), which included singles including “Whenever, Wherever” and “Underneath Your Clothes.” Shakira’s albums “Fijación Oral, Vol. 1” and “Oral Fixation, Vol. 2” (2005), “She Wolf” (2009), and “El Dorado” (2017) continued to top charts around the world. In addition to her successful music career, Shakira is committed to charitable work. She established the Pies Descalzos Foundation with the goal of giving Colombian underprivileged kids access to educational materials. She has also performed on a number of important occasions, such as the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
